Personal factories, printing presses and pocket telecoms

Yesterday I wrote about video playing a role in building communities. It’s bad form to quote yourself, but I wrote that:

[video] highlights enthusiasm and promotes passion. We all know that enthusiasm can be infectious, when it comes to community building it brings a whole new meaning to viral video.

Today I came across a fantastic example of video doing just that. It’s Zach Smith, co-founder of MakerBot, giving a lecture about the joy of making. He’s talking about communities and about sharing in a great presentation on Do Lectures

I particularly liked the way he describes 3D Printing as a technology. He says we all have global telecommunication networks in our pockets, printing presses in our homes – all of which we take for granted, so why not a factory too? Watch it here
